PRISM Awards Judges Needed

Want a short trip to Charleston? The Home Builders Association of Charleston is seeking judges for their annual product and marketing awards. The onsite judging will take place the last two weeks of September. Please contact Phillip Ford for more information or to volunteer.

James Lawrence “Andy” Anderson, Sr., 78, of Pinopolis, SC, entered into eternal rest Thursday, July 14, 2016. His funeral service will be held Sunday, July 17, 2016, in Northwood Church, 2600 North Main Street, Summerville, at 3:00 pm. Interment will follow in Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Saturday, July 16, 2016 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., NORTHWOODS CHAPEL, 2180 Greenridge Road.

Andy was born June 17, 1938 in Beech Hill, WV, son of the late Preston R. Anderson and the late Ethel Bernice Lewis Anderson. Andy was a US Navy veteran. He was a General Contractor, a former instructor for the contractor license test and FEMA Disaster Housing Inspector. Andy was a member of the National Association of Home Builders, Past President of local and state associations and a member of the SC Housing Hall of Fame. He was a member of Northwood Church.
He is survived by his wife, Carla Anderson; two sons, James L. Anderson, Jr. (Jeanie) of Charlotte, NC and Kenneth M. Anderson (Delores) of Summerville, SC; stepson, Mark Alan Van Haelst (Jennifer) of Goose Creek, SC; stepdaughter, Kelly Jean Van Haelst of Pinopolis, SC; grandchildren: Michael, Robert, Mathew, Lauren and Joseph Van Haelst, Danae Merrick (Mark), Melody Herman (Craig), Erin Summers (Justin) and Kenneth M. Anderson, Jr. (Liz); brother, The Rev. Dr. David L. Anderson of Louisville, KY (Kathi). He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Kathryn Anderson

Andy was a Life NAHB Director from Charleston. 

OSHA Training Opportunity

The Home Builders Association of Charleston will host a two-day OSHA training course on September 9-10 at the Charleston Area Convention Center.

Attending members will learn to:

  • Write and maintain an effective safety program
  • Understand the effect of job site safety on insurance premiums
  • Anticipate what to expect from an OSHA inspection, including your rights
  • Comply with OSHA standards for fall protection, electrical, PPE, and more
  • Save money by avoiding fines
  • Earn a course completion card from Federal OSHA

Participants will become Fall Protection Certified and will have the opportunity to reduce their premiums with Builders Mutual Insurance Company.

HBA of Charleston is looking for Judges

HBA of Charleston is holding their 2013 Prism Awards this fall.  Judging will take place September 26 – 27. They are looking for a few judges to come to Charleston and judge their entries.
