Significantly enhances the ability to service an expanding customer base as the U.S. housing market recovery continues
Greenville, South Carolina – September 22, 2015 –
US LBMHoldings, LLC (“US LBM”) announces its intent to acquire
GBS Building Supply of Greenville, SC from its employee shareholders. The acquisition is expected to close on October 5, 2015. Bob Barreto will continue leading GBS’s day-to-day operations with his existing team in his current role as CEO and President.
In 1972, a group South Carolina-based homebuilders, under the leadership of R. Buford Landers, established a company to serve as their own supply source while also meeting the needs of all professional homebuilders. GBS has grown from a startup with just 10 employees to an employee-owned company with a staff over 100 strong. Today, GBS operates 6 locations across the Carolinas supplying windows, doors, stone, roofing, siding, millwork, lock hardware, columns, trim, mouldings, cabinetry, countertops, decking & railing, gypsum, lumber & plywood, insulation, and other building materials. In addition, GBS Building Supply operates a custom molding & millwork center and offers kitchen design services and floor system design.
“GBS is excited to join the US LBM team,” said Bob Barreto, CEO and President of GBS Building Supply. “This new partnership allows us to continue to invest in operations and enhance customer service at all our locations. The opportunity for growth for our employees, customers, and vendor partners is extraordinary.”
“GBS Building Supply is a great addition to the US LBM family and continues our strategy to diversify from both a product and geographical perspective,” said L.T. Gibson, President & CEO of US LBM. “GBS has a proven team with a history of success. We are excited to partner with their associates and look forward to future opportunities together in the region.”
US LBM is a collection of
leading buildingmaterial distributors across North America operating 165 locations in 22 states. It is the 3rd largest building products distributor in the United States, and recipient of the
2015 ProSales Dealer of the Year award. US LBM implements the philosophy of local management and leadership to capitalize on the premier reputation of its operating companies and local customer relationships.

- Presenting Partners
- Dillard Jones Builders
- Clark’s Services
- Hosts
- GBS Building Supply

- Patrons
- Gallivan, White & Boyd
- Michael and Karen Dey
More than 60 members and guests judged the annual chili cook off contest, played the game “corn hole,” and enjoyed steamed oysters prepared by Clark’s Services.
Special thank you to Deana Long of Carter Lumber Company, who raised $100 selling tickets for the PAC 50/50 Raffle.
This year’s event was held in the Atrium and on the patio at the TD Convention Center.
S.C. Builders PAC is a cooperative Political Action Committee managed by the Home Builders Association of South Carolina. Local HBAs throughout South Carolina raise funds for the PAC. PAC funds are used to support candidates for public office who support housing and home building. PAC contributions are voluntary. The association’s Legislative Committee screens candidates for office and recommends contributions to the association’s Board of Directors. Candidates for statewide office are further screened by a Board of Trustees made up of representatives from each of the local HBAs across the state.

About the Chili Cook Off
The Annual Chili Cook Off is anticipated by members all year. HBA members and friends compete for the best chili, enjoy steamed oysters, an assortment of sides and desserts, and adult beverages.
The chili will be judged by attendees to the event for the winner of the coveted “People’s Choice Award” for the best chili. Participants “purchase” votes on their favorite chili for $1 per vote, and all of the money will benefit the PAC. As they say in Chicago, vote early and often!
New this year will be the “Top Hot” award, judged by one of our local elected officials.
Elected officials from around the Upstate have been invited to attend.
First Annual Corn Hole Tournament
Also new this year will be the first annual Corn Hole Tournament. You know the game: toss a corn bag from 27 feet away into a small hole. Teams will enter to earn the top prize: The Corny! All entry fees will benefit the PAC.
Event Hosts and Presenters
Event Hosts and Presenters make it happen. Of course you can buy a ticket and attend. But consider doing more. Everything benefits the PAC.

You also can support the PAC by contributing a door prize.
