Fall was in the air at Thursday’s Chili and Politics Event making it a success!

While the rain may have dampened summer’s sting and allowed for cooler weather, it was a great night for Chili and oysters at the annual Chili Cook-off event on September 24th. This year’s event was hosted and sponsored by Gateway Supply Co, with oysters provided by Clark’s Termite and Pest Control, and the nights beverages sponsored by Greer State Bank.

The HBA of Greenville would like to congratulate the Chili and Dessert Cook off winners.
  • Best Dessert- Ferga-licious, Ferguson Enterprises.
  •  Best Overall- Mean Mama’s Chili, GBS Building Supply
  • Hottest Chili- Fire in the Bowl, Gateway Supply Co

Getting ready!

The Ground Hog may have predicted 6 more weeks of winter but at Tuesday’s annual Housing Market Forecast Luncheon predictions were more favorable.

Your HBA, SMC of the Upstate, Greater Greenville Association of Realtors (GGAR), and Upstate Mortgage Lenders Association (affiliate of MBAC) held The Housing Market Forecast Luncheon at TD Convention Center on Tuesday, February 3rd featuring Dr. David Crowe, Chief Economist for NAHB. Dr Crowe brought some very valuable information catering to our unique and growing area. Including this: Crowe predicted that single-family housing starts in the Greenville metro area would grow 17 percent this year, to 3,392. Crowe also mentioned that while Greenville’s housing market still isn’t back to normal following the Great Recession, it should get there over the next two years.
Dr. David Crowe is Chief Economist and Senior Vice President at the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). Dr. Crowe is responsible for NAHB’s forecast of housing and economic trends, survey research and analysis of the home building industry and consumer preferences as well as micro economic analysis of government policies that affect housing. Quarterly Economic Report

Quarterly Economic Report

That latest quarterly economic report is ready for viewing.  Produced in partnership with RESH Marketing and sponsored by Clark’s Services, the report provides HBA members with up-to-date information about the Upstate housing market in an easy-to-consume five-minute video format.

The report is presented by Joseph Von Nessen, PhD., CMP, Director of the Real Estate Center at the University of South Carolina Moore School of Business.

The key findings in this quarter are the weakening of employment, which was stronger in 2012 than 2013, largely the result of the Federal Government Sequester and the increase in the Federal Payroll Tax. The report also found that intense competition, particularly in Greenville, has resulted in more than 70 percent of new homes have been built by the top 10 builders.
