The Missing Middle
Your Home Builders Association supported and participated in a forum on housing in Greenville in October in partnership with these great groups:
- Upstate Forever
- Piedmont Natural Gas
- Greater Greenville Association of Realtors
- Habitat for Humanity
- Piedmont Health Foundation
- Greenville Housing Fund
- American Institute of Architects
- City of Greenville
- Kroc Center
- Greenville Homeless Alliance
- Appalachian Council of Governments
Nearly 200 forum attendees learned how shifting demographics are leading to increased demand for walkable, affordable urban living. They also explored how “missing middle” homes types could help meet that demand by expanding housing diversity at a variety of price points, while also using land efficiently – protecting rural character and preserving critical natural resources.
Two keynote speakers, John Hunt of Market Nsight and Karen Parolek of Opticos Design, discussed the economic and public policy challenges that are barriers to meeting the housing needs in most communities.
Below is the John Hunt’s presentation. To read a full report on the forum, including the full-length videos of all of the presentations, visit Upstate Forever’s website by clicking here.
