What is your favorite thing about Greenville?
The energy. As we all know, Greenville is no longer a secret. It also is no longer sleepy. It only take a few minutes on Main Street downtown to understand how special Greenville has become.
How long have you called the Upstate home?
Eleven years. I came to Greenville when I joined the HBA in 2007. Although I began spending time here when my son, Patrick, attended the Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities in 2004. And the change has been amazing to watch, and participating in it has been fantastic

What is the biggest change you have seen in the Upstate?
As a native of Greenville, there has been so much change. Obviously downtown but many of the surrounding areas of Greenville like Simpsonville, Mauldin and Travelers Rest have their own cool factor and identity now. They are no longer just the sleepy rural towns they used to be with unique downtown markets, stores, and restaurants.
What is your favorite restaurant in town?
It’s hard to pick a favorite but I think it would be a toss-up between Rick Erwin’s Nantucket (I love their seafood and martinis, great for an evening out!) and The Exchange Co. coffee and bakery in downtown Simpsonville. They have great baked goods for any time, but my favorite is the Lavender & Vanilla Iced Latte!

What is your all-time favorite spot in the Upstate?
All-time favorite spot would have to be, after climbing (on a bicycle) up Paris Mountain, going all the way to the top by the radio tower and just enjoying the view. On a clear day, you can see forever and just enjoy God’s Creation.
The Upstate is ranked on numerous Top 10 lists. What about the Upstate makes it unique?
Being born and raised in the area, the Upstate has such an inclusive atmosphere to offer for such a wide range of people – from food to entertainment to exercise — Greenville has the “it” factor every town strives for.

What is the best kid-friendly spot in Greenville?
The Greenville Zoo because what kid doesn’t love to see the animals and they have great interactive activities for kids as well.
What do you consider the perfect weekend activity?
Watching sports whether it be my kids and their team or my beloved Auburn Tigers, I love to watch any and all sports!

Describe a perfect afternoon in Greenville, S.C.
There are so many amazing things to do in Greenville that it is hard to pick just one way to spend an afternoon. One of the best ways to view our amazing city is to take a ride on the Swamp Rabbit Trail. First, I would look at renting a bike from one of several great bike rental resources. Reedy Rides offers bike rental packages that cater to different interests. For a more casual, low key bike ride, I would pick a bike package that included a picnic. From there, I would take a bike tour of downtown that includes Falls Park and the Greenville Zoo. After the bike ride, I would take a stroll down Main Street, to check out all of the shops and restaurants, while searching for the Mice on Main. Finally, I would visit one of our many fabulous restaurants to wind down over a bottle of wine and a delicious dinner.
