Green Building
Green buildings are designed to reduce the overall impact of the built environment on human health and the natural environment by:
- Efficiently using energy, water, and other resources
- Protecting occupant health and improving employee productivity
- Reducing waste, pollution and environmental degradation
Energy efficiency and a wise use of resources not only helps the environment - it saves homeowners money. Green homes and EnergyStar homes have been proven to dramatically reduce utility bills for water and electricity.
The Home Builders Association of Greenville currently offers courses on green building through EarthCraft House, which teaches builders and realtors the basics of green building and the components that go into a green home. Builders can become EarthCraft certified to build green homes, which carry the EarthCraft certification. To learn more about the EarthCraft program, click the logoed link below. For more information about EarthCraft courses at the HBA of Greenville, check our event calendar for upcoming classes or call the HBA office at 254-0133.

The National Association of Home Builders has created a voluntary residential green building program known as NAHBGreen. The program includes an online scoring tool, national certification, industry education and training for local verifiers. The online scoring tool is free to builders and to homeowners.
