Ted Smith, 2007 Builder of the Year

Each year BB & T sponsors the HBA of Greenville Builder of the Year Award during the association's annual year end party. This distinguished award goes to a builder member who freely gives of his or her time and talents in order to make the HBA of Greenville a stronger organization for all of its members. This builder is one who serves the industry through participation on HBA Committees and with special projects of the Home Builders Association. He or she represents the highest level of integrity and honesty in the home building industry.

Ted Smith has excelled in all areas while running a very successful business. He has served as a member of the HBA Board of Directors, as a member of the HBA Executive Committee, as a member and chairman of the Legislative Committee, the Developers Council, and has been instrumental in moving our Association from a reactive role in local government to a pro-active role.

Ted has been a home builder for 25 years and since breaking ground on the first Poinsett home in 1998 has, along with his business partner Ron Taylor, led the company into steady growth to become one of the areas largest and most respected home builders.

Ted's dedication was also recognized with a second award of the night, "The President's Citation Award." This award recognizes Ted for his outstanding contribution to the Home Builders Association in the area of government affairs.

Because of his many hours of volunteer time for the HBA's government affair's program, he has made an impact on protecting the rights of our building and development communities in Greenville County. Among other things, while serving as Chairman of the 2007 Legislative Committee he led the charge defending the association's interests in the Tree Ordinance debate. He and his staff spearheaded one of the most successful PAC fundraisers our association has ever had.

Though both awards display Ted's name, he shares his success with Ron and the 100 dedicated employees of Poinsett Homes.

Tom Ward, 2007 Associate of the Year

Like Ted, the recipient of the 2007 Associate of the Year is no stranger to volunteering his time. In 2006, Tom Ward of Home Team Pest Defense worked unselfishly on the Habitat Blitz putting in many hours during the week-long event. He is a member of almost every committee of the Home Builders Association and is always volunteering to assist with events and special projects.

In 2008 Tom will serve as Associate Vice President on the Board of Directors and as Chairman of the Membership Committee. He also serves on the Community Service Committee and Chairs the Ambassador's Club of which he was instrumental in its formation. Tom is a frequent and generous sponsor of our programs and events while running a successful business, Home Team Pest Defense, as General Manager.

Because of Tom's enthusiasm and spirit of his association he was also awarded the Spirit of the HBA Award which represents the spirit of the HBA through service, leadership by example, and selfless giving to his or her association, industry, and community.
